Under the art nouveau style, founded and inaugurated by Josep Robert I Soler the March 31, 1906, later his son, Josep Robert i Mestre, inherits it. In 1947 it was bought by the pharmaceutical Maria Ferrer i Argelaguet, and since then no reforms have been made "to maintain the essence," says Mercè Ferrer. It is a pharmaceutical business with tradition that has aged well, preserving flawlessly the shelves, counter and also the ceiling of the establishment.

 

"I think the neighbors appreciate this continuity", says Ms. Ferrer. And they are so loyal to their past that in the doors giving access to this modernist gem, we can still read the name of the old pharmacy.

 

The farmacy keeps inside all wooden shelves with rich decor inspired by nature as well as the long counter (with ornaments on its front) and furniture where money is charged, both dress the public reception room. Mainly stands Josep Vidal ceiling with plaster moldings garlands and the representation of a "trompe-l'oeil" temple.

Also the floor, of ancient ceramic, where the predominant colors are pink, gray and green, attracts the attention with its large leaves and flowers.

Pharmacy Bolós

Today I present to you the old pharmacy Novellas, du its name to its first owner, the pharmacist Antoni Novellas i Roig, who commissioned the decoration in 1902 to the architect Antoni Fern i Sivilla. He sold it to the family Bolós in 1927.

The building's architect was Josep Domenech i Estapà. The decoration of the pharmacy, located on the ground floor of the building, was made by Antoni Fern according with the instructions of Mr. Novellas. The access door is formed by three panels of plumbed glass, in one of which the name  NOVELLAS appears. On the three sheets of the door is a representation of an orange tree. Inside, despite the reforms, there are excellently preserved the windows, mahogany desk, the murals on the ceilings and original stained glass of modernist period.

 
Above the door there is a sign chiseled with the name of the pharmacy, surrounded by the most pharmacies representative modernist plants. Inside there are pharmaceutical allegories painted on the side walls and the names of four pharmacists admired by Novellas: Fors, Carbonell, Scheele and Lemery.

There is representation of medicinal plants and flowers inside and outside the establishment.

The Bolós pharmacy has three rooms, separated by wooden frames rooms that give access to each one. One of them, is dedicated to the homeopathy and opened later in 1906. The pharmacy is part of the Heritage catalog of the city of Barcelona, ​​and its modernist decor is in excellent condition, thanks to comprehensive restoration by Jordi Bolós i Giralt, current owner and grandson of Antoni Bolós i Vayreda, who bought it to Antoni Novellas.

There are many details that set, but I advise you also to look to the floor: original tile, at its edges is finished as a carpet fringe.
